Abstract:
The given article is devoted to the memory of Vasily Vasiliyevich Maltsev, the outstanding Russian scientist. It deals with his professional way from a simple worker to a doctor of juridical sciences, a professor and Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation. Being a scientist means not only to possess comprehensive knowledge, but also to seek for the truth tirelessly, to bring accepted dogmas into a question as well as to generate new ideas. This mission requires deep dedication, unwavering will and constant aiming at perfection. This article focuses on his great contribution to the development of criminal law including the formation of an independent scientific approach and the supervision of 15 dissertations of candidate of juridical sciences. V. V. Maltsev is considered to be as a guide, determining the way for new generations of researchers. He shared his accumulated knowledge and inspired his students to make their own discoveries helping them real-ize their scientific potential. Vasily Vasiliyevich was more than just a teacher was; he was a friend and a critic to be able to discern some spark of a talent in everyone and fan it into the bright flame of scientific research. In the given article one considers the importance of his key monographs as well as his authorship of over 250 scientific works of significant importance to the criminal law theory on the whole. The author of this article characterizes V. V. Maltsev as a principled scientist and talented mentor whose works and sacrosanct authority left a deep impression in the hearts of colleagues and students.
