The article focuses on the issues of correlation among the notions of "correction", "re-socialisation" and "probation", as well as current aspects of their particularities and interrelationship are revealed. In the legal doctrine, the subject of convicts’ correction, their resocialisation and probation is at the core of the discussions on the effectiveness of the execution of criminal punishment. In spite of the fact that these notions are interrelated, each one has its own unique identity and purpose. To understand their correlation and particularities is the key point for developing the basic goals of penitentiary policy and providing successful social adaptation of convicts. The process of social adaptation is a challenging and multifaceted phenomenon for detailed consideration and reinterpretation. It includes many factors from the individual particular features of the convict's identity to the created optimal working arrangements of the Russian penal enforcement system. This study considers modern theoretical approaches to the definition and correlation of the notions of "correction", "resocialisation", "probation" and the issues of their realization. The author notes that efficient functioning of the probation sphere requires improvement of legislation based on a systematic approach of legal regulation. Based on the theoretical analysis of the notions of "correction", "re-socialisation", "probation" and modern problems of legislative regulation of these definitions, the author concludes that realization of these notions is to be focused on achieving a common purpose — crime prevention and public safety.
