The article analyzes the regulatory regulation of areas of special knowledge in Russian laws, reveals similarities and differences in the regulation of areas of special knowledge for cases of appointment of forensic examination in some types of legal proceedings. It is shown how the legislation on the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation on the appointment of legal examinations, which are allowed to be conducted only on issues of international or foreign law, has changed since 2020. These changes are compared with judicial arbitration practice, which since 2014 has excluded the possibility of conducting legal examinations on issues related to domestic law. These circumstances, according to the author of the article, clearly demonstrate the trend towards narrowing the scope of appointment of legal examinations, including forensic regulatory examinations. This is due to the widespread introduction of legal reference systems into law enforcement practice, which allow obtaining the necessary legal information in an up-to-date format and retrospectively. It is argued that the involvement of specialists for legal consultations is a legal promising form of using special legal knowledge in all types of legal proceedings.
