Lidia Alekseevna Avilova is a Russian writer of the 19 th century. Along with showing different aspects of the Russian reality, provincial plots about the justice in Russia of that period of time are embodied in her works. Whether Lidia Avilova describes the emotional experience of the child’s soul (“The First Grief”) or shows the feelings of adults («Without a habit», «The Court Investigator»), all her works are profoundly psychological. A. P. Chekhov paid great attention to Lidia Avilova’s works. He could give her some advice and sometimes even criticized her, but highlighted her success. I. A. Bunin was in deep sympathy with Lidia Avilova. He emphasized her creative sensibility and highly appreciated her short novel «The Heirs». L. N. Tolstoy spoke highly of Lidia Avilova’s works. He published her tale «The First Grief» in «The Circle of Reading».
