In article on the basis of legal and theoretical statuses, and also practical experience of investigative divisions features of carrying out an investigative experiment are considered. Author's definition of a definition of this investigative action is offered, value of the considered investigative action in the course of investigation of criminal case is marked out. As a result of the analysis of maintenance of this concept, the investigative experiment has been delimited from verification of indications on the place, investigative survey, conducting examination and an operational experiment. An investigative experiment rather „young“ investigative action as in the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation as independent it is enshrined only in 1960. During the analysis of a concept of definition of an investigative experiment authors have come to a conclusion that problems of a standard regulation of this investigative action in the criminal procedure legislation of the Russian Federation cause the problems arising in practice. Solutions of the revealed problems are offered.
