This article is devoted to Mikhail Andreyevich Shmatov, a man who has had a decisive influence on the characters and worldviews of many people. He was known as an experienced and respected scientist who put his deep professional knowledge and organizational talent to his work, sparing no effort, energy or time. Thanks to his high erudition, outstanding personal qualities, ability to interact with people, intelligence, and teaching skills, he earned universal respect and indisputable authority among colleagues, cadets, and students. Mikhail Andreyevich was one of those persons who combined vast experience with a truly creative, soulful approach to the work he had served. He made a significant contribution to detective activities science as the founder of one of its scientific schools. His name is rightfully included in modern textbooks on the theory of detective activities. Many of his students occupy leadership positions at the Volgograd Academy of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia, the Moscow Academy of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, etc.
