According to the crime fight experience effectiveness of such activity directly depends on the means and methods applied. The article analyses relevant issues of cooperation between Russian police, community, and mass media in solving the tasks of fighting crime and increasing prestige of service in the interior bodies. Under current circumstances interaction between interior bodies and mass media implies permanent two level administrative process, which is carried out through information departments (press services or specially appointed officers) with mass media bodies and their personnel on mutually beneficial conditions for achieving their goals. On the one hand reporters get objective information requested by their audience which allows to keep prestige of the issue or other mass media body. On the other hand interaction with the community and mass media allows interior bodies to solve their own tasks. The author summarizes successful experience of press service activity of the Volgograd police and suggests ways to solve the problems of interaction between police, community, and mass media. The author comes to the conclusion that described interaction positively affects maintenance of law and order in the Volgograd region.
