The article dwells with the issues of investigating public opinion as one of the pivotal criteria for evaluating the performance of the internal affairs bodies. Much attention is paid to the stages of reforming the system of the evaluation of the performance of the internal affairs bodies, as well as to the problems emerging in the process of investigating public opinion and to the influence of various objective and subjective issues to the results. Particularly the author underlines that the law enforcement activities of the internal affairs bodies influence so many citizens that even though an ideal job is made the negative evaluation is possible due to the unabiding respondents. Therefore it’s hardly needed to overemphasize the meaning of the public opinion polls while studying the performance of the law enforcement bodies. Meanwhile, taking into account all the difficulties and problems, the public opinion is still one of the main criteria for the evaluation of the performance of the internal affairs bodies. And forming the positive public attitude to the subordered law enforcement bodies is still one of the main tasks for the authorities of all levels. To do so it is needed to continue forming an effective system of informing the public about the activities of law enforcement bodies. This should include cooperation with the media; reports for the legislative (representative) bodies, community; Web-activities etc.
