The pretrial agreement on cooperation, the so-called «plea bargain» or «plea agreement with the prosecution» is one of the most controversial and promising new criminal procedure law applied in the investigation and prosecution for the past six years. Issues of conclusion and implementation of such agreements at the pretrial and trial stages of the criminal proceedings have been and remain relevant and of great interest not only to scientists, but also to practitioners. The article analyzes the application of pretrial agreement on cooperation during the entire period of its existence in the criminal practice of Russia. Basing on the statistics and practice data the authors appreciate the effectiveness of such agreement in crimes solution and detection that permits estimate its meaning for legal procedure. Taking into consideration demands of the practical work legislative decisions on the increasing of the studied legal example application are suggested.
