This article considered criteria for the definition of «investment disputes», ways to protect the rights of foreign investors (diplomatic protection and judicial protection). Special attention is paid to the issues of investment dispute resolution in the framework of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, ICSID) provided the Convention on the settlement of investment disputes between states and individuals and legal persons of other states in 1965 (Washington Convention in 1965), the competence of which is the resolution of legal disputes arising directly from the relations connected with investments. According to the author the ICSID it serves as a basic element in the international legal mechanism to protect foreign investments. In article distinguish the features of this mechanism, provided the Washington Convention in 1965, made recommendations for the use of this multilateral treaty for the effective settlement of investment disputes between the receiving State and the foreign investor, confirm the importance of investment arbitration for regional integration.
