The article provides analysis of El Salvador’s and Ecuador’s legislation concerning the order and conditions of service in the national police, its organization, legal status, and disciplinary liability of police officers. The authors compare the given laws with the Russian legislation on service in interior bodies. Particular attention is paid to the criteria of estimating the police investigator’s performance. The authors study the experience of El Salvador’s police pointing to the existence of the Disciplinary Court which conducts full, independent from the police administration disciplinary process with the opportunity to appeal against the Disciplinary Court’s decision and apply to the police agency’s research department handling disciplinary penalties for doctrinal explanation of controversial issues of disciplinary liability.
