The article analyzes the contribution to the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad made by the 10th NKVD Division and its role in educating modern youth in relation to the history of internal affairs bodies. On the basis of systemic analysis the authors consistently and in detail study numerical strength, governance issues, the work of headquarters officers and operational groups, the system of the headquarters communication with the division regiments, the tactics used by the division soldiers in the fight against the enemy, and work with the personnel. In the authors’ opinion, the division newspaper reporting about heroic deeds of the division personnel played a great role in patriotic education. When repelling the fascist troops’ attacks the NKVD soldiers displayed courage and heroism, forever becoming glorious in the descendants’ memory. The authors of the article convincingly depicted the true role of the NKVD in the Great Patriotic War using the heroism of the 10th NKVD division defending Stalingrad as an example.
