The generic object of forensic examination is a dynamic category that tends to change constantly, which is manifested in the expansion of the range of "weapon" objects and their qualitative changes. The authors highlight the main trends in the development of forensic ballistic examination objects, focusing on the main areas of work on improving small arms and ammunition, which have been actively conducted in recent decades. It is noted that when a forensic ballistic examination is ordered, a wide range of different objects and devices are presented as research subjects, not all of which can be examined within the framework of this examination. In this regard, the authors express their opinion on what should be considered objects of forensic ballistic examination and propose a specific list of such objects. They also express their opinion on the illegitimacy of examining grenade launchers as part of forensic ballistic examination.
