Today, 3D technology is actively developing and is widely used in the aerospace, automobile, dental, and medical industries, as well as in other fields. The use of this technology provides a number of benefits over traditional methods of problem solving, and in certain cases, it opens up new possibilities for tasks that were once considered impossible. This article will discuss the potential of using the portable 3D scanning device "Caliby Mini" to capture the volumetric tread patterns of tires. To accomplish this, the author conducted experiments based on their findings, describing the process of expert action for capturing volumetric treads. Next, they compared the identified features on the following surfaces: the tread-forming surface, a 3D model of the tire, a plaster mold, and a 3D print produced by a 3D printing machine. Additionally, a legal analysis was conducted to determine the legality of using 3D scanners for capturing tire treads in accordance with Russian legislation.
