A traceological examination of clothing damage is an important piece of evidence in the investigation and detection of crimes against the person. However, it has been established that most of the literary sources on this subject date back to the 1970s and 1980s and are significantly methodically outdated. The general provisions of the methodology for examining damage to clothing are set out in more modern educational and reference literature, but it does not fully cover all the features of the examination process. During the examinations, there are still shortcomings in the correct assessment of diagnostic signs characterizing the type of damage. Thus, there is a need to clarify the provisions of the methodology of the traceological examination of damage to clothing by bladed items, to identify its problematic aspects, which will contribute to greater validity and reliability of the conclusions of experts. The article presents the features of the methodology for the production of traceological examination of clothing damage caused by bladed items. The key points of the preliminary and separate study of the objects submitted for the study, the expert experiment and the comparative study, as well as the evaluation of the results and the formulation of conclusions are specified and explained. The methodological features described in the article can be used by practitioners of the expert divisions of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation in the production of traceological examinations of clothing damage.
