The article discusses based on the practical experience of the Forensic science centre of the Ministry of the Interior of Russian Federation the problematic aspects of the appointment and production of examinations and studies of textiles provided to resolve the issue of their compliance with the requirements of technical documentation, including those related to the structural and technological indicators of the textile materials used. Recommendations are presented aimed at eliminating errors during sampling of research objects and minimizing the risks of subsequent recognition of this procedure as incorrect, performed in violation of the requirements for selecting products for quality control. The boundaries of the division of competencies of specialists in various fields of knowledge determined by the content of issues which are submitted for expert decision, are defined. The list of recommended textile materials for the establishment of physico-chemical and physico-mechanical parameters is formulated, and based on it, the optimal structure of the algorithm for conducting relevant research is proposed. Its key aspects are highlighted and technical documentation is provided, the provisions of which should be guided when studying the characteristics of textile materials. It is concluded that in the expert study of textile materials, the proposed methodological approach and algorithm, reflecting the completion of the research stages and clearly structuring the work, will avoid obtaining unreliable results.
