Forensic fire-technical expertise is one of the most complex types of engineering and technical expertise, and it differs from other types of expertise in terms of its subject matter and objects of study. The subject matter of this type of expertise is the issues that are addressed by a fire-technical expert on behalf of an investigator or a court within the scope of their expertise. The range of such issues is very broad and diverse. This is due to the many causes and conditions of fires, as well as their subsequent development and consequences. The objects of forensic fire and technical expertise are items of the material world related to the event under investigation. These may include combustible and non-combustible fragments of buildings and structures, remnants of burnt, scorched, or melted objects, electrical appliances and equipment, items with traces of combustible and flammable liquids, substances and materials capable of spontaneous combustion and ignition, arson tools, as well as case materials with documented information about the circumstances of the fire etc. Fire and technical expertise is organically connected with such fire and technical branches of knowledge as fire engineering, fire tactics, fire prevention, and others. To successfully solve the tasks assigned to it, modern achievements of various sciences and fields of scientific knowledge, such as criminology, forensic expertise, construction, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, etc., are used, allowing for scientifically based research and ensuring the reliability of the results obtained. This article discusses the main methods of fire and technical expertise, which focuses on electrical conductors after a fire.
