This article examines the study of one of the most challenging types of authentic signatures to identify—one made by a person in their own name with deliberate alteration of their signature. It clarifies the definition of this type of signature, examines and illustrates the most typical methods for constructing an altered signature model based on experimental studies, highlights the dependence of the chosen distortion tactic on a number of objective and subjective factors, and identifies groups of features reflected in intentionally altered signatures. In presenting the features of the methodology for handwriting analysis of one's own signatures made with intentional changes, the need to adhere to a certain sequence of actions of the expert is emphasized, the requirements imposed on comparative materials are described, attention is focused on the issues of assessing the identified matching and different features, which is especially important for differentiating between genuine signatures made with intentional changes and inauthentic ones made with imitation.
