The article focuses on the issues of the nature of historical metanarrative and the causes of the crisis of official Soviet metanarrative of the Great Patriotic War. The author criticizes providentialist and conspirological variations of the teleological interpretation of the war. The article draws attention to the possibility of working out a new concept of the war on the basis of methodological synthesis with the dominating civilizational geopolitical approach.
