The article shows the peculiarities of criminal activity connected with the frauds towards the socially unprotected citizens, operational procedures in solving mentioned types of offence. The aim of the research is studying the typical common and specific leads the most frequent in solving frauds, committed with reference to the socially unprotected categories and examination of checking activities on the leads. Methodological basis consists of the theoretical statements of the dialectics. The main methodological principle is general scientific principle of objectiveness observance of which helps get the valid data. Scientific substantiation is determined by applying empirical methods of obtaining knowledge: studying the criminal cases, comparative-legal and statistical methods and questionnaire survey. Abstraction and generalization are taken to systemize and interpret the facts. As a result of the research the authors examined the typical common and specific leads the most frequent in solving frauds, committed with reference to the socially unprotected categories and examination of checking activities on the leads. The results can be applied as a material for lecturing, practices and seminars in the course «Forensic Science», in the frames of official training of investigators specializing on the crimes against property.
