APPLICATION OF AUTOMATIC PLANNING SOFTWARE TO BUILDING UP EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ INFORMATION SKILLS
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The article describes how specialized software is used for automated project management, a basis for the development of new courses. This approach is used as a tool to create educational environment for the development of students’ information competency. Application of software systems to planning and monitoring the educational process helps to improve responsiveness to events that require changes to the process of teaching a course. Consideration is given to the possibility of viewing the process of designing and teaching a new course as a project-based activity. In addition, the authors define the three levels of hierarchy that arise when the course is being introduced to the educational process (the level of collaboration between structural units, the level of collaboration between teachers and the level at which various parts of the course interrelate). The article also shows that to illustrate the task of managing the implementation process, a calendar resource planning sheet can be used. The process of creating interconnections between different parts (topics) of a course as well as assigning further resources for each topic is exemplified in discrete mathematics course. Resources include classrooms, laboratories and academic staff. Due account is taken of the resources calendar availability. To showcase computer support to the planning process, the article outlines using the specialized software product Microsoft Project. Gantt charts are applied to monitor the educational process. They visually convey information about the plan of the process and reflect the actual state of affairs. This allows you to quickly take action and introduce adjustment to the educational process. The method has shown its effectiveness for training courses of information technology bachelor’s degree programme resulting in higher levels of information competencies of students.
