The paper exposes relevant issues of the present day election system in the Russian Federation. Their relevance is determined by the fact that the number of legal offenses registered during elections is far from diminishing, whereas the unresolved question of democratic voting remains one of the main reasons why the rudiments of legal nihilism still sprout in the minds of general public. The author suggests automating up to a certain extent the process of supervision over how precinct election commissions carry out their duties. In particular, his suggestions include the implementation and usage of a hardware and software complex nullifying the probability of the same person voting several times at different election precincts. In the author’s opinion, this measure can help to decrease the number of legal offenses committed during voting. Apart from this, the author suggests increasing the severity of punishment for the crimes and offenses in the sphere of election process, because the unlawful acts in question entail the violation of the interests of general public, and the measures suggested are seen as the only way to make election process candid and fair.
