An analysis of the practical activities of the fire-technical laboratories of the forensic units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia shows that cases of fires related to the operation of various electric consumers (electric vehicles, laptops, etc.) containing lithium-ion batteries or lithium-ion rechargeable batteries (Li-ion battery) as a power source are becoming increasingly relevant. The article discusses the issue of the fire hazard of lithium-ion batteries. Classifications of fire hazard factors of the Li-ion battery and possible causes of their ignition are given. The authors considered in detail, using examples from expert practice, the implemented set of actions at the scene of the incident, which makes it possible to establish or exclude the involvement of the Li-ion batteries in the fire. The article highlights the main signs of the Li-ion battery’s involvement in the fire, which will allow a specialist to conduct a preliminary investigation at the fire site, which will significantly speed up the investigation process.
