One of the types of traceological examination is the examination of mechanical damage to clothing. This study is accompanied by a variety of tools used to inflict damage, among which a significant part is occupied by objects of piercing action. These tools can be both cold steel and household items. It is difficult for both a specialist at the scene of the incident and an expert in laboratory conditions on puncture injuries on the victim's clothes to determine which instrument caused these injuries. Depending on the type of clothing material and the position of the implement, the morphology of the damage may vary, which makes it much more difficult to differentiate the design of the piercing object. As a result of the study of damage caused by blade-piercing objects on garments made of various materials, patterns of damage formation on various types of fabrics and knitwear, leather and imitation leather, non-woven and film materials have been established. The possibilities of detecting such features of bladed weapons in damage as the presence or absence of ribs, the shape of the cross-section of the blade, and the type and shape of the tip have been established. The study of injuries caused by non-bladed piercing objects for household purposes allowed us to estab-lish the possibilities of their differentiation. The results of the study can be used by practitioners of the expert departments of the internal affairs bodies when conducting a study of puncture wounds to clothing.
