Quite often, identification and diagnostic tracological studies are carried out as part of the investigation of crimes of burglary or penetration into private property, which are carried out through doors or windows, by knocking, breaking or cutting with special tools. In cases of crimes involving penetration into a dwelling by cutting glass, various objects, including glass cutters, can be used. As part of this work, the main types of glass cutters used in construction work and in everyday life were studied. In order to solve the problem of establishing patterns of displaying individualizing signs of glass cutters, the possibility of identifying them by damage on the glass, as well as establishing similar and different signs of different types of glass cutters, a number of experiments were conducted. It is established that the display of certain signs in the traces of glass cutters does not have a clear boundary of location and is quite variable, depends on the acting force, the degree of operation of the glass cutter, the conditions of cutting, etc. The identified sets of features for each individual glass cutter make it possible to determine the group membership by the damage formed. There is no identification complex of signs in the traces of glass cutters.
