The article discusses current problems in the theory and practice of conducting complex forensic handwriting studies. Their essence, modern typology, development trends are analyzed. The opinion is expressed that complex research is currently the main form of forensic handwriting examination. This is explained by the specificity of its objects - manuscripts, the analysis of which is carried out using different areas of special knowledge. Particular attention is paid to the subjects and methods of conducting complex forensic handwriting studies. It is indicated that in the process of any type of complex study of writing, the delimitation of the competence of subjects is of great importance, which is expressed in the structure and content of expert actions. It is concluded that complex forensic handwriting studies are widely represented in expert practice. They are characterized by the specificity of objects and subjects of production, which must be taken into account in the development of the methodological potential of forensic handwriting.
