The article discusses the methodological and organizational problems of preparing materials for the appointment of a forensic expert examination of texts of correspondence in messengers. The article analyzes the experience gained in solving identification problems for such objects at the Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. It is noted that correspondence, as a new object of the author's forensic examination, has a number of research features and the specifics of the preparation of comparable objects, for which the investigator's pre-expert assessment of the materials sent for examination is of particular importance. The article provides recommendations for a pre-expert assessment of materials, including involving a specialist for the joint selection of objects, a preliminary assessment of their sufficiency and suitability for research, and the formulation of questions before an expert, the solution of which allows to establish the involvement of specific persons in the commission of a crime. The author comes to the conclusion that a pre-expert assessment of materials is mandatory when appointing an expert examination in order to maximize its effectiveness in proving the circumstances of the event under investigation.
