In today’s Russian society high demands are imposed on preliminary investigation agencies’ officers, with due regard to the tasks they are facing. Professional advancement is one of the forms for an office bearer’s capacity building, which reflects an official’s professional qualification level, taking this into account it’s possible to perform his/her professional duties efficiently. The present article focuses on introducing practice-oriented methods of instruction into the Russian MIA system of continuing professional training, that allow to recreate and simulate with students, in the frame of courses given, some real situations of professional activity and in doing so to form practical reasoning and communicative skills of prospective investigating officers and heads of investigative departments. It opens out overall competence of preliminary investigation agencies’ officers. Taking this in consideration makes possible to achieve maximal approximation of the curriculum content to the specifics of the tasks carried out by the present category of students.
