The article is devoted to the study of the classification problem of e-learning systems. The content of the concept of «e-learning» and its essential features are disclosed. The analysis of the presented in the scientific literature variants of classifications of e-learning systems is carried out, their advantages and limitations are revealed. On the basis of the generalization of the results obtained, two approaches to the classification of e-learning are singled out: on the basis of external criteria (organizational, program, technical) and internal criteria (the pedagogical aspects of teaching-targeted, content and procedural). The author's classification of e-learning systems is proposed, which integrates both approaches and includes the following criteria for distinguishing the types of e-learning: by subjects of design; resource support; organizational forms of training; software implementation; means of communication between the teacher and the student; value-oriented orientations; mechanisms for mastering the content of education; the role of the learner; role of the teacher.
