The article discusses the concepts of consulting and information and reference activities of a handwriting specialist. Based on the research, the author reasonably concludes that the consulting activity of a handwriting specialist in criminal proceedings provides exclusively for a procedural form of implementation, which consists in giving them an opinion and testimony, which, along with others listed in Article 74 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, are the main evidence, this allows it to be distinguished from other types of activities of a handwriting specialist, in particular information and reference, which results in a response to a law enforcement officer's request in the form of a certificate that helps to make a decision on the expediency / non-expediency of conducting procedural actions, which acts as a reference and auxiliary means of proof. As a criterion for distinguishing between consulting and other types of activities of a handwriting specialist, a procedural nature is proposed in conjunction with the evidentiary significance of the results obtained.
